Pupil Premium
In April 2011, the government introduced the Pupil Premium funding.
This additional funding is allocated to children who are known to be eligible for Free school Meals, children whose parents serve in the Armed Forces and children who have been in Local Authority Care continuously for more than six months.
The government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current attainment gaps between children eligible for Free School Meals and those who are not, by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the students who need it most. Since its introduction, the eligibility criteria has expanded to include pupils from Service families and pupils who do not currently receive Free School Meals but have done within the past six years.
Schools decide how to use the Pupil Premium funding as they are best placed to identify the barriers facing their pupils, in their schools, and plan the provision that will best support them.
As a school, we are required to publish information about how we plan to use the Pupil Premium funding (Part A of the statement). The strategy statement also includes a review of the previous years spending impact (Part B of the statement).
The three main principles underpinning our strategy are
- Belonging
- Really knowing our pupils unique talents
- Being stronger together to make a difference to children
