Year 1
Welcome to our Year 1 class page

Spring Term News
I can’t believe we are at the end of the spring term already! The children have made such great progress, and I am so proud of all of them.
In writing we have been learning to write a diary entry based on the ‘Diary of a Worm’. They blew me away with how well they remembered the diary structure. They have applied their learning and wrote their own diary entry based on a spider or a fly.
In our Maths meetings we have been building on our knowledge of numbers to 50 and we can now recognise and place those numbers on a number line. We have enjoyed measuring mass and capacity in our Maths lessons- the children particularly enjoyed measuring the mass of different objects around the classroom using cubes.
In Geography we have been learning about the United Kingdom. They children have learnt about all 4 countries and their capital cities. They now know about human and physical features and are beginning to recall features for each country in the United Kingdom. We have come to the end of Everyday Materials in Science and have enjoyed the experiments. We found the best material for an umbrella was plastic.
As we approach the end of term, I am so proud of all the Year 1s. They are phonic superstars and have excelled in their ability to read, write and calculate!

At Badsey First School, we value the importance of reading.
It is important that your child reads regularly at home to help them consolidate the phonics skills that they have been learning in school, develop their fluency and support their comprehension. It is really important that all children have their reading records and reading books in school each day. When your child reads at school, you will receive feedback in the reading record too.
