Reception Class

Welcome to our EYFS class page

We are happy members of the school, always supporting each other and trying our best to be kind and responsible! We love learning and we hope you enjoy looking at all of the wonderful things we do in reception.

Our teachers are Mrs Williams and Mrs Elsdon. We also have Miss Owen and Miss Allcock, who support us with our learning too.

 Summer Term News

We had a fabulous day visiting Cotswold Farm park and enjoyed seeing lots of the animals and learning about their environments and how to look after them!

Our Teddy Bear's picnic was a huge success and we enjoyed our cakes with our favourite teddy bear. We played lots of games and enjoyed spending time with the nursery children for our "together afternoon".

We had an exciting new addition in Reception and we welcomed 5 caterpillars. We enjoyed observing them and watching them form their chrysalis's. We made sure that we cared for them correctly and fed them frequently. We released them during our forest school session and we were so excited to watch them take flight. They were beautiful colours!

We will be visiting the Recreational ground on Monday 23rd June to take part in a local walk. We will be creating maps and observing our local area. Please remember to apply sun cream before school if the weather is sunny.

News from EYFS

Welcome back to the Summer term!

We hope you all had a lovely half term!

We are continuing with phonics and adding more CVVC words to our sound knowledge. It is really important that the children get the chance to practise this at home with you! Please continue to read little and often. This builds children's confidence and feeds directly into writing. This can be the time of year where some children become a little frustrated if they have gaps in their phonic knowledge.

We have shown some fantastic number skills already this week. We are using our number knowledge to begin to problem solve and we are now applying our number knowledge to develop our knowledge of sharing and doubling. We are also exploring pattern and spatial reasoning.

We have lots of exciting learning to look forward to this term. We are reading "Handa's Surprise" and we are learning all about other cultures. We have a travel agents in our role play area and have started to plan our holidays. We have been thinking about where we would like to visit and what we will do when we are there.

Forest School will continue as normal EVERY Monday afternoon. Please remember to still wear long trousers even in warm weather because of the long grass and brambles. Sun cream and a sunhat will also be required in warmer weather.

Remember to bring your library book in so you can change it when we visit on a Monday too.

As always, if you are unsure about anything or need to talk, we will always be happy to help if we can.

Thank you, EYFS team.

NEWS FLASH

Reading is hugely important in reception and we really encourage you to read little and often with your child. If they are too tired or you are pushed for time, have you thought about using flashcards to practise sounds?

The Curriculum

The EYFS recognises that children need to be able to use concrete experiences to provide the building blocks for their learning. Based on this, the learning ethos behind EYFS encourages a mix of play-based and adult led learning.

Here are some documents you might find useful to have a look at to help your understanding of the EYFS curriculum and how best to support your child in their first year at Badsey First School.
